Original bugzilla entry is rather old, I'd like to offer some comment
on it though.
First, in past I noticed there is difference in order offered by folder
list pane and windows shown on Copy/Move message action for folder
selection (Ctrl-O/Ctrl-Shift-O). This seems to be gone now, looking at
my 3.17.5. One small difference, purely aesthetical, is there are no
icons in folder selection window as used for system folders (sent,
drafts, queue, trash).
I just found there is small problem with those system folders - I
created new folder and folder order changed. On start, I have INBOX
with subfolders Sent, Drafts, Queue, Trash. Then I created new
subfolder 1. Immediately after folder 1 creation order of subfolders
changed to 1, Drafts, Queue, Sent, Trash. I verified this behaviour on
both 'normal' 3.17.5, GTK2 version and 'devel' from git, GTK3 branch
version.
Folder order depends on locale, in my case I need LANG=en_US.UTF-8 in
order to be able to send accented non-ASCII characters in headers (as
is Subject), but not use localised menu and texts. This way folder
order is changed. In past, I had first folders with name starting in
upper case, sorted alphabetically, then folders with name starting in
lower case, sorted alphabetically. After starting to use above
mentioned LANG setting, order is folders sorted alphabetically, case
insensitive.
I can imagine there could be various ideas how to sort folders in those
lists. Trying to please everyone at once is either impossible or not
feasible, but could there be defined some hook which can be used for
some special plugin or scripting? I am now learning a bit about Claws
Mail's internals and hook mechanism seems to be really powerfull for
many purposes...
Regards,
Milan
