My *guess* is that there was a crash, or something, such that
claws-mail didn't close gracefully.

I would copy the ".bak" file over the one with zero bytes (while CM is
not running) and see if that fixed it.

(PS, replying to all since my messages never seem to get to the list
AFAICT.)
