I am using Claws 3.17.4 on Windows 10. (Also on Debian 10 but not tested
there.)

I was not able to setup Claws to english UI so I am not sure if I translated
the menupoint correct. Please see the attachment.

 1. selecting a folder in the groups view
 2. File -> Export to MBOX-file
 3. Filename "myfolder"
 Problem: Claws crashes

Another variant

 1. selecting a folder in the groups view
 2. File -> Export to MBOX-file
 3. Filename "myfolder.mbox"
 4. The file is created and Claws did NOT crash, but...
 Problem: The file is empty (0 Bytes)

Another:
 1. Mark all messages in one folder.
 2. File -> "Export selection to an MBXO file"
 3. Filename "myfolder" or "myfolder.mbox" doesn't matter
 4. file is empty
