With imap you can run Thunderbird and claws at the same time. Just pick one that is allowed to delete the messages from the server.  Running both programs will mean more file space used on the client. 

I just run claws, but I was thinking of setting up Thunderbird just to use the dkim plug in as an experiment. My email server puts the dkim status in the header which is easily observed with a control H. But that just verifies the email on the server has not been altered in transit. It would be interesting to verify dkim on the client. 

During all the email hacking in the 2016 election, the press was using this Thunderbird plug in to verify the stolen email was unaltered.

Yes, it does. There is a script (called thunderbird-filters-convertor.pl)
available at https://www.claws-mail.org/tools.php, which will convert tb
filter rules to Claws Mail filter rules. (It's an old script and I don't know
if there have been changes in tb since, but it still works as far as I know.)

You said you use IMAP. Therefore there is nothing to import, your folders and
messages are saved on the server. You just need to add this IMAP account to
Claws Mail.

Otherwise, there is another script at the same place, tbird2claws.py, which
will convert your tb mailbox(es).

Claws Mail has what we consider a feature: It does not create/write HTML
messages. It can read and display HTML mail (either as text or rendered using
a plugin), but does not create HTML mail itself.
