I'm no expert, but I am under the impression that GNOME rather migrated the
tray to something else (libappindicator / gnome-shell-extension-appindicator?).
I have other apps (Telegram, kdocker...) which do use a system tray icon and
they do work perfectly fine in GNOME. So I'd insist it's a problem with Claws
Mail.
