Not automatically, afaik. But you can select the date string and run a script
on it using the Actions feature. ("/Configuration/Actions" to configure it,
"/Tools/Actions/..." to run it.)

The Action 'Command' would be

/path/to/your/script %s |

To simplify it as much as possible, you could add a hotkey combo to the
Action. Then it's just a matter of selecting the original date, hitting the
keycombo, and continuing with your message.
