I'll eat "childish" and "pathetic".

This change went in at version 3.15.0, which was released 26th March 2017.

Quite simply, if you want 'previous' to act like 'next' and 'next to act like
'previous', instead of using 'next' use 'previous and vice versa.

There's not much more to say. This change came about because of
comments/requests by users and it never was like you say in comment #3.
