No, "next unread message" is (if sorting by date) a newer message. If older
messages are higher up then the movement is downwards; if older messages are
lower down the movement is upwards.
This has been the case for 7 releases, over 2+ years.
As for the option, there wasn't one before either.
It is not my intention to bully users, and I don't feel that I am.
