[Users] can not read address book index

The file in question is ~/.claws-mail/addrbook/addrbook--index.xml

Perhaps you still have a backup copy:

 ~/.claws-mail/addrbook/addrbook--index.xml.bak

If you have simply copy or rename it, dropping the .bak suffix.

Otherwise, create or edit addrbook--index.xml with the following format:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<addressbook>
  <book_list>
    <book name="Common Address" file="addrbook-000001.xml" />
  </book_list>
</addressbook>
---- copy above ----

You'll add a '<book name=....' line for each addressbook.
