Ok...  :)

$ /usr/bin/env python --version
Python 2.7.15

I also included "import re" to show it works there...

The shebang is the problem...  I changed it to:
##!/usr/bin/env python                                                          
and the crash doesn't occur.  Normally, the shell uses the shebang; CM
shouldn't, should it?
