what do you mean by 'a mail which is on account X', do you mean a mailbox,
(perhaps an IMAP mailbox)?

Do you have the 'automatic account selection' option set?
(/Configuration/Preferences/Compose/Writing)

Is the mail addressed to account X (To or Cc header)?

What are your settings in the 'Folder' frame of the Advanced page of the
Account Preferences?
