[Users] PLEASE UNSUBSCRIBE ME

Richard lists-claws at listmail.innovate.net

Let me give this one last try ...

If you go the the url you included in your message, and which is at
the bottom of all messages to this list:

 > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit
 > <https://lists.claws-mail.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/users>

you will be directed to the Mailman page for this list. Toward the
bottom, after the "Users Subscribers" banner, there is a line with
the following: "To unsubscribe from Users, ... enter your
subscription email address:". Below that is a textbox followed by the
submit button, labeled "Unsubscribe ...".

Enter the email address you signed up to this list with in the
textbox and select the submit button. Assuming that you entered the
correct address you will in short order get an unsubscribe
confirmation message. Simply click on the url in that message. It
will take you to a page where you select "confirm" (or somesuch).
Then you are done.

A way to check the email address that your mailings are going to is
to look in the message headers and look for the "X-Orig-To:" tag -
fairly close to the top. Do not confuse this with the
"X-Original-To:" tag.

The email address after the "X-Orig-To:" tag is the one that your
copy of the list mailing was sent to (regardless of what
mailbox/account you are reading it in).

One note -- because you appear to be on the digest version of this
list I am also sending you a direct/off-list copy of this message as
well. The "X-Orig-To:" tag value on that message (it should be fairly
clear that it's not an on-list message) is not what you want to use
to confirm you subscribed address. Look at the headers of any of the
other recent messages you have gotten from this list for your
subscribed address, on the "X-Orig-To:" tag.

In general, sending "unsubscribe" messages to the whole list
membership has no value. On this list the list owner is likely a
member, but on many lists the people who can do things like
unsubscribe you when you don't seem to be able to do it yourself are
not frequent readers or even members of the list. If you are having
trouble, the standard approach is to use the "List-Help" information
found in the message header to get in touch with the people who can
assist you. Effectively spamming the whole list, twice now, is not a
way to win friends (or get assistance).

By the way, the problem with "one-click unsubscribing" is that if a
3rd party forwards a message the recipient of that message can simply
hit the url and unsubscribe the list subscriber from the list in
question. That creates a whole separate set of issues.
