No, it's not Dovecot; I am on 2.2.29 and have had this on earlier versions too. 

Something similar happens when I disconnect the network, then delete a message.
Claws will spin for a while, then give up and turn the message blue (same thing
happens if I click 'stop all'). When I stop and restart claws, the message is
black again.
