No, it is not. If you chose no message to be selected by default when opening a
folder, which is an available option, then the list will always be scrolled up
and you will see the very top of the list, regardless of whether the newest
messages are set to be at the top or bottom of the list.

There is no option to have the newest messages at the bottom, no message
selected and the list scrolled down to the bottom when entering a folder.

It should be possible to have the list scrolled down by default without having
to select a message to achieve that.

Even if you use threading, messages are more likely to appear closer to the
bottom of the list than to the top when the list is sorted by date and set to
show newer messages at the bottom.

If in doubt, make it an option in the settings.
