Adding  a bump to this old issue I found after getting stuck trying to follow a
large email thread (where none of the participants bothered to strip the first
message's 2+ MB attachment) on a slow 3G link.

I guess this feature will only be useful for a small fraction of users, so
maybe it could be hidden under a hidden pref. 

I might take a stab at implementing this if there's a developer wiling to help
me figure out the proper way to integrate this with the current code.
