[Users] How to purge deletions?

Hi all,
On deletions, I *don't* use the "move to trash immediately" feature, so
my deleted emails are simply marked. I like that better in case of
accidental deletions.
However, it seems like those marked deletions stay in my folders
forever, with no way of getting rid of them. I can use "hide deleted"
to hide them, but when I uncheck and recheck "hide deleted", the old
deleted emails are visible while there's no hiding.
Fascinatingly enough, I have one folder in which if I delete all
files, leave the folder and come back, all the deletions are gone and I
have a clean folder. But this isn't reproducible in other folders.
I can perform "rebuild folder tree", and the deleted messages remain.
I'm using Claws-Mail 3.13.2, and my account is an IMAP account looking
at my local Dovecot 2.2.26.0 server.
Does anyone have any tips how to purge very old deletions while
retaining the "modern" ones?
Thanks,
SteveT
