Indeed not too much space left but I would think more then enough for a 40 MB
attachment. 
In the mean time I deleted some stuff now it looks like this.

 $ df -h

Don't know yet if this cured the problem because I deleted the file via the
webmail on the server.

Addition, I just checked and it is working now.
