The OP mentions that claws was build from git for Ubuntu 16.04.1.
_Maybe_ the OP made a mistake when building Claws. I build Claws from
git for either Arch Linux and Ubuntu 16.04.1 and there aren't issues, so
following my advice to build from git for Ubuntu 16.04.1 ensures that at
least Claws is build correctly. I don't understand why this is off-
topic.
