In output.txt I've found this warning:

** (claws-mail:1763): WARNING **: Can't get xml dtd
(claws-mail:1763): Claws-Mail-WARNING **: wrong folder list

and indeed, following Paul's tip, I've checked folderlist.xml, replaced
it with folderlist.xml.bak and now everything seems to work fine again.
