[Users] Corrupted folders

Every once in a while, usually when the system shuts down before
claws, my folder structure gets corrupted: folders disappear from the
list. The directories are still in Mail, and the messages seem to be,
but they don't show up in the folder list and obvious the filtering
rules don't work.

Today's episode has tens of thousands of messages shifted into
subspace, as it were.

What's the school solution to get them back? I've tried "move
directories, re-create folder, put messages back in new folder" but that
is unpleasant and probably error prone.
