DD/MM/YY is not "generic" European. Please be more specific if you file
bugs. In the Netherlands, we use a dash: DD-MM-YYYY

I agree however that whatever form of M/D/Y should be worldwide
abandoned :)

See /Configuration/Preferences/Display/Summaries/Date format. I have

 [ %H:%M:%S %a %d-%m-%Y ]
