You are confused.

POODLE is not a problem with a specific implementation like GnuTLS.  It
is a problem with the _protocol_ SSLv3, which both GnuTLS and openssl
implement.  Along with others.  The change was to force Claws (by
default) to use these other protocols, and not SSLv3.  Which is entirely
orthogonal to whether you build Claws with GnuTLS or openssl.
