Note that the "Shift+Tab goes to Subject line" feature was added in version
3.8.1, so that might be why it did not work for you.

By the way, I don't think adding "Alt+S" shortcut is a bad idea - that key
combination doesn't do anything in the compose window right now, and we already
have shortcuts for the notebook pages above it.

The Up key suggestion is an interesting one too.
