[Users] Managing claws mail memory usage

I run Claws under Xubuntu on a several years old laptop, but with 4 gig
of RAM usually everything is awesome. I have a couple of folders with
30-50k messages in them, I try to keep my inbox down under 10k messages.

I have 3 or 4 POP accounts that get filtered fairly extensively,
probably a hundred RSSyl RSS feed folders.

I do carry the laptop around with me, willy-nilly open and close it, so
it's very likely that Claws gets cut off in the middle of network
connections regularly.

Every once in a while my machine will start running slowly, so I'll
pop up "top" and see that Claws is using a gig and a half or so
of resident memory.

Any hints for better managing memory use with Claws? Would I be better
off using fetchmail and procmail to retrieve and filter, and maybe just
deliver to a local IMAP server?

I love that right now, after a clean start and visiting a folder or
two, "ps -aux" shows an RSS of 103972. I'd love a way to better manage
long-term memory use so that it hasn't climbed to a gig this afternoon.

Thanks!

Dan
