If you are running Linux Mint 17 all you need to do to always have latest release is:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:claws-mail/ppa
sudo apt-get update

After doing the above start Synaptic an choose status. You should see claws listed with a
possibility to upgrade to version 3.11.1
