Thanks, I have tested that. The result is  that as soon as I
select an unread message it is immediately marked as read, even
before I have not actually opened it up to read it.

Once the window is open, using Shift-N to move on to the next unread
messages does work, the messages are marked as unread. So that is
getting closer.
