I had a look at it and then had a play. This is my bash history, with
line numbers first - 
6589  cd ~/git/claws
 6590  git describe --dirty
 6591  git diff --quiet HEAD
 6592  git describe --dirty
 6593  git diff --quiet HEAD
 6594  git describe --dirty
 6595  git update-index --refresh
 6596  git status
 6597  git describe --dirty
 6598  git update-index --refresh
 6599  git diff --quiet HEAD
 6600  git describe --dirty
 6601  git status
 6602  git update-index --refresh
 6603  git status
 6604  git describe --dirty
 6605  git describe
 6606  ./autogen.sh
 6607  make
 6608  sudo make install
 6609  acp git
 6610  h1
 6611  h2
 6612  h3
 6613  cd
 6614  git describe
 6615  cd ~/git/claws
 6616  git describe

As you can see I updated my C-M, but its still showing as 'dirty'. I'm
using git version 1.8.3.2 so I don’t know what to do about it all.
