The "egocentric" style is actually one characteristic of the widely used
supercite package for Emacs, and hence of many if not most of the people
(like me) who use Emacs for most of their editing, including the editing
of email messages.
It is really interesting to see a gmail user's opinion of what
traditional Internet usage is :-p
