[Users] Troubles with claws-mail 3.8 upgrade :p:

I opened claws-mail with the --debug option and routed the output to a
text file.  When I try to connect in the console I see this:

In the text file there is a lot of stuff.  My best guess is this is the
relevant section:
progressdialog.c:62:Creating progress dialog...
inc.c:775:getting new messages of account Tom 3e2a...
ssl.c:216:waiting for SSL_connect thread...
ssl.c:234:SSL_connect thread returned -9
session.c:353:session (0xa9ed210): closed

As far as using the STARTTLS option - I have tried that but just
results in a "Connection Failed" error.

SMTP AUTH is set to automatic and it has my user id and password for
the smtp server.
