> With Gnome you have Network Manager's icon.
Yannick,
I have wmaker with clickable wmifs icon, no Gnome shell /desktop. I was able to apply some 'sudo' commands to wmifs, shutting down the network interface on left click, setting up again on right click. But still, if i just shut down the link, claws 'timeout' hangs. A clean solution would be to abort (or kill) the claws 'send' process directly. But shouldn't this be a quick click in claws, rather than elsewhere in the desktop ?
But anyway, i have to admit, the nice trick of just removing the 'send directly' button (so only 'save into outbox' is left) mostly solved my problem. I got used to 'think twice' now .... Many thanks for the helpful comments here, which let me arrive at this 'soft solution'!

Hmm, does nothing here. By this, do you mean i somehow could apply custom commands to key combinations in xorg.conf ?
