[Users] ./ configure problem with notification_plugin-0.29

I just wondered whether anyone could point out the (I hope obvious)
wrong step that this inexperienced user is making when trying to
install Holger Berndt's notification plugin.

I untarred the tar.gz to a new folder.

cd to folder

./configure

which produces: 

configure: error: cannot find sources (src/notification_plugin.c) in .
or ..

Can anyone spot my mistake?
