gzipped email shows a message having the munging problem

A recent email I received has the following character sequence in it:

 fmxRedirect.pl?id=ABZbLgc

Claws-Mail rendered it as:

 fmxRedirect.pl?id«ZbLgcB_YmM

Notice the substitution of « for =AB.

Several related messages had other combinations of hex digits and were also
rendered improperly - for example "id=B08LLwcB" rendered as "id°8LLwcB_".

This becomes a problem when clicking on the link (or cutting/pasting) to access
the website.
