Several related messages had other combinations of hex digits and were also rendered improperly - for example "id=B08LLwcB" rendered as "id8LLwcB_". This becomes a problem when clicking on the link (or cutting/pasting) to access the website. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. It turns out this is almost never what I meant to do. It seems that the trigger for this is: 1. Type something. 2. up-arrow to previous line. 3. Start typing. Reason this bites me is that often the "something" in the first line is something signature-y. So I might write something, then write "- seebs" at the bottom of it, then think better and add a new paragraph -- but then when I hit line wrap, that gets merged. Not sure what the "fix" would be. This doesn't happen in some other cases; I'm assuming it's a general case of "moving within a paragraph doesn't break paragraphs", in which case, maybe if you move up from a paragraph to a blank line before it, this should be considered a separate paragraph, not moving within a paragraph. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. The information says it is "Retrieving", while actually it was "Filtering". And on other part of progress window, it says "Quitting". So the three process is not sync. Claws is configured to load mails from a local Dovecot IMAP server on the same machine (which in turn is updated using offlineimap). I've been using this combination for four years now with hardly any hitches. However, recently, things have begun to slow down a lot, and ten days ago Claws began to hang entirely on certain operations. So far I have found this to be the case when: * Trying to open certain messages - there seems to be no clear pattern * Running "rebuild folder tree" on the IMAP account Once it hangs Claws will not respond to anything including a TERM signal. It has to be killed with kill -9. In case it may help with diagnosing the problem, I've attached the strace output that results when I start claws, set it to online mode (it always starts offline for some reason), and then try to rebuild the folder tree. I have deleted my entire ~/.claws-mail folder and started from scratch, to no avail. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. I neglected to add that the problem has only been cropping up since I upgraded to Claws 3.8.0. However, in a sense you're right. when running from the command line, every crash was accompanied with a message saying "IMAP: parse error." Once this message appeared, the program would hang. I managed to address this by upgrading dovecot to version 2.0, clearing out all indexes and caches, and moving out most of the old messages to a separate IMAP account. Now it seems to be working smoothly. As such it seems like the bug,if there is such, is a result of Claws failing to gracefully handle IMAP errors. I am changing the status of this to Resolved now but perhaps this can be considered in future. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. At first, when I start the program, messages download quickly, and the filter log displays many lines such as [23:37:07] IMAP4< [FETCH data - 1400 bytes] in rapid succession. However, after some time (of the order of hours, or after some idle time, I am not quite sure), Claws' fetch speed slows down considerably, and although the network log shows the same lines as above, they appear in a slow succession. The effect is that I am unable to fetch messages with large attachments, rendering the program unusable. Restarting fixes the network issue temporarily. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. Something like: That's not particularly strange. That's because gmail imap cannot handle incremental saves to the drafts folder. So what you can do is * turn off automatic saves to drafts (/Prefs/Compose/Writing) or * use a drafts folder which is not on gmail's imap server (choose from the account prefs) Thirdly, you could suggest to gmail that they make their imap follow the standards. with regards Paul -- It isn't worth a nickel to two guys like you or me, but to a collector it is worth a fortune From ricardo at mones.org Wed Jun 20 09:52:26 2012 From: ricardo at mones.org (Ricardo Mones) Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2012 09:52:26 +0200 Subject: [Users] strange network behavior II In-Reply-To: <20120619205733.7e1c2777@dirac.quantum.org> References: <20120619205733.7e1c2777@dirac.quantum.org> Message-ID: <20120620075226.GC2678@trasgu> On Tue, Jun 19, 2012 at 08:57:33PM -0300, Rodrigo Fresneda wrote: > > There is something bizarre going on with claws' interaction > with gmail imap. Cheers, Ron. -- Passionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life. -- Eric Hoffer -- http://www.olgiati-in-paraguay.org -- Migrating mail filtering rules from KMAil to Claws-Mail Getting fed up with KDE as the years go by and KDE becomes more and more bloatware, I finally decided to bite the bullet, to get rid of KDE and move to a lighter Desktop Environment; the only thing keeping me in KDE was KMail, with over 125 filtering rules I did not relish entering one by one using the Claws-MailGUI. So I looked into how could I speed up the process by working directly on the config files. In KMail, the filter rules are part of ~/.kde4/share/config/kmailrc where each rule is in a paragraph beginning with [FilterN] with N the ID number of the rule. In Claws-Mail, they are in ~/.claws-mail/matcherrc, where each rule occupys one line. Since about 95% of my rules were based on whether a given string was present in either the Subject header, the From header or the whole message, and simply moved the message to a given folder, I have decided to concentrate on those, and do with the GUI the few remaining and more complicated rules. For the rules based on the presence of a string, in KMail each rule has lines for name= (the name of the rule), one or several filedA, fieldB etc lines for Subject, Message, From etc, the same number of contentsA, contentsB etc lines for the strings, an action-args line for the name of the folder, and an action-name=transfer indicating what the rule does; dead simple. In Claws-Mail, each rule line starts with 'enabled rulename "Name Of The Rule"' indicating the rule is active, and called 'Name Of The Rule', then one or several 'subject matchcase "string1"', 'from matchcase "string2"' or 'message matchcase "string3"' that indicate which header to filter on with what string, those being separated by '|' if any condition is sufficient for the rule, and '&' if all conditions must be fulfilled. So I started by making a dummy rule file with the gui, which I then edited using Kwrite; it holds the building blocks I will use for cutting and pasting the rules together, with the addition of strings I will cut and paste from kmailrc : [preglobal] [postglobal] [filtering] enabled rulename "" subject matchcase "" move "#mh/mailmh/" enabled rulename "" from matchcase "" move "#mh/mailmh/" enabled rulename "" message matchcase "" move "#mh/mailmh/" | subject matchcase "" | from matchcase "" | message matchcase "" Mode d'Emploi : Start building your rule with one of the three 'enabled rulename....' segments, depending on whether the first condition of your rule is on Subject, From or Message. If your rule is on Message Body, Any Header etc adjust to suit. Add | subject..., | from.... and | message... segments to match all the FieldA, FieldB, etc in the Kmail rule, to build the skeleton of the rule. Copy and paste the name, contentsA, B etc. and action-arg strings from kmailrc in their places between the "" in your rule skeleton. And Presto, your rule is done. If your rule depends on all conditions being fulfilled together, replace all the '|' of the rule with '&'. If you want your rule to be case-sensitive, use 'match' instead of 'matchcase'. While a rule in KMail is limited to eight conditions, there does not seem to be any such limitation in Claws-Mail, which means that if you were compelled in KMail to split a rule in several rules doing the same action, you can bring them all together in Claws-Mail. To check for mis-pasted or forgotten strings, search your file for the strings '""' and 'mailmh/"'. Once you have finished editing matcherrc, you will have to restart Claws-Mail for the new filter rules to be taken into account. enabled rulename "test1" subject matchcase "Test2" move "#mh/mailmh/trash" mark_as_read enabled rulename "test2" from matchcase "olgiati" & subject matchcase "test" & subject match "Case Sensitive" & from regexpcase "ABC*" & headers_part matchcase "headers" & body_part matchcase "body" & message matchcase "whole message" delete A quick syntax and vocabulary : enabled | disabled : whether the rule is active or not. rulename "string" : the identifier of the rule. [ from | subject | message | body_part | headers_part ] [match | matchcase | regexpcase ] "string" Where to look for the string, and how (case sensitive, insensitive, regular expression) A tilde ~ at the beginning implies a negation.of the condition. | means OR, & means AND and the two should not AFAIK be mixed in a rule. I'm migrating from "Mozilla Thunderbird" to "Claws Mail" and I'd like to migrate my data (emails and emails folders). In "Mozilla Thunderbird", I presently have "n" email addresses. For each email address, I have several folders and subfolders where I put my emails. For example, for one email address, here is the kind of structure that I have: //---------------------------------- an_email_address at an_isp.ext - Inbox - Drafts - Sent - Trash - a_dir_1 - a_sub_dir_1_1 - an_email_1_1_1 - an_email_1_1_2 ... - an_email_1_1_k1 - a_sub_dir_1_2 ... - a_sub_dir_1_n1 - a_dir_2 - a_sub_dir_2_1 - a_sub_dir_2_2 ... - a_sub_dir_2_n2 ... - a_dir_N ... //---------------------------------- I would like to retrieve all my emails and the directory structure above in "Claws Mail". In "Thunderbird": 1) I downloaded the "ImportExportTools" addon. 2) I chose "Tools" -> "ImportExportTools" -> "Options" -> "Export directories" and checked "Export folders as MBOX file" to a directory "D". 3) I then selected the email address "an_email_address at an_isp.ext" and chose: "Tools" -> "ImportExportTools" -> "Export all the folders (with structure)" Now, in "Claws Mail": 1) I selected "an_email_address at an_isp.ext". 2) I created a "a_dir_1" folder. 3) I chose "Import mbox file..." and for the "Mbox file" parameter, I chose "D/a_dir_1" (which was exported previously). It ends up with an error: "Mbox import has failed" Can you tell me what I should do to recover my data into "Claws Mail"? Thank you and best regards. -- Léa Massiot From noreply at thewildbeast.co.uk Wed Jun 27 10:10:05 2012 From: noreply at thewildbeast.co.uk (noreply at thewildbeast.co.uk) Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2012 10:10:05 +0200 (CEST) Subject: [Users] [Bug 2681] MIME Multipart message fails to display if preamble is encoded In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <20120627081005.ECC5D8541C@mx.colino.net> http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2681 Paul changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Component|SMTP |UI/Message View -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. The multipart delimiters and header fields are always 7-bit ASCII in any case, and data within the body parts can be encoded on a part-by-part basis, with Content-Transfer-Encoding fields for each appropriate body part. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. I don't know but I imagine it's a non plain mbox format, though I didn't know it existed or corrupted?? If a standard exported file works you could open them in a text editor and compare. and/or If a standard single folder export works. You may be better of exporting all mails to a single mbox. Migrating any filters you have, I believe there is a plugin to migrate filters from thunderbird. Create folders and run the filtering on all of them. p.s. I recall there may even be a tool specifically to migrate almost everything form thunderbird to claws but I forget the specifics. -- ________________________________________________________ Why not do something good every day and install BOINC. ________________________________________________________ From claws at thewildbeast.co.uk Wed Jun 27 15:48:18 2012 From: claws at thewildbeast.co.uk (Paul) Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2012 14:48:18 +0100 Subject: [Users] Claws Mail 3.8.1 unleashed!! I don't know either... I'm not doing anything special: 1) I am used to putting my emails into directories and subdirectories within "Mozilla Thunderbird". 2) I want to export that structure - hierarchy of directories - along with the emails it contains into a format compatible with "Claws Mail". 3) And finally, I want to import all that into "Claws Mail". And there is no reason why any file or directory should be corrupted. .............................. SOMETHING WHICH WORKS PROPERLY .............................. Suppose I have a simple folder "f" containing emails in "Mozilla Thunderbird". If I chose: "Tools" -> "ImportExportTools" -> "Export folder", I get a file "f" as a result. Prior to this, in "Tools" -> "ImportExportTools" -> "Options" -> "Export directories", I checked the "Export folders as MBOX file" check box. In "Claws Mail", if I choose: "File" -> "Import mbox file..." and select "f": I recover my emails properly. .............................. SOMETHING WHICH DOESN'T WORK .............................. Now, suppose I have a folfer "f" containing two subfolders "f1" and "f2" which in turn contain emails ("m1" to "m5"): f f1 m1 m2 f2 m3 m4 m5 if I do the same thing as above and if I choose: a) "Export folder with subfolders (simple)", I get three files "f", "f1" and "f2". "f" size is 0. "f1" and "f2" have a non-zero size. In "Claws Mail", when I choose "File" -> "Import mbox file..." and select "f". It fails. b) "Export folder with subfolders (with structure)", I get a file "f" and a folder "f.sdb". Again "f" size is zero. "f.sdb" contains to files "f1" and "f2" with non-zero size. In "Claws Mail", if I choose, "File" -> "Import mbox file..." and select "f". It fails again. > Kevin Chadwick wrote: > Migrating any filters you have, I believe there is a plugin to > migrate filters from thunderbird. I have no filters... > Kevin Chadwick wrote: > p.s. Message-ID: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2682 Summary: Bug in UI refresh. Product: Claws Mail Version: CVS Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: UI AssignedTo: users at lists.claws-mail.org ReportedBy: Reslayer at ya.ru When switching from a folder to folder it leaves folder background highlight on the former folder in the tree, often smashes messages list mixing its content with what it had there before. The only thing refreshes good is message view: it refreshes each time a folder changes. As soon as I redraw window content (I use awesome WM; used it when everything was okay, use the same build when it's all not okay with claws-mail) by forcing redraw or switching workplaces it gets redrawed okay, and if then I change folder, it comes again. Because I'm with Claws Mail from Ubuntu repos and use 11.10, I suppose there was something buggy with last GTK usage changes; switching to Claws Mail 3.8.0cvs56 first without extra plugins did not change this behaviour. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. I can make Dovecot do this if I create a broken SSL certificate chain deliberately (or indeed accidentally, which is how I discovered it). Once you've tried to get TLS working that's it and the connection simply freezes until reset. Connecting again would work, but you would then need to remember state from the previous connection and deliberately not initiate TLS on the second attempt. I am glad to have found this thread - my problem is exactly like Dan's and I have tried the good advice given so far. I start in the "to" field entering the address, continue to the "Cc" field by using the tab, start typing, and the "To" field is cleared and instead I get what I typed in the "Cc" field, but now located in the "To" field!!! First, my situation: Ubuntu 11.10. Claws-Mail 3.7.9 Mail stored on local Dovecot IMAP server on my desktop, Viewed with Claws-Mail Dovecot version 2.0.13 Occasionally, meaning every couple months, when reading my IMAP with Claws-Mail, a legitimate message has an artifact subject and date, when viewed in the message list and only when viewed in the message list. When you look at the email itself in Claws, it has the correct subject and date. From the looks of the subjects in the message list, it looks like it's randomly assigning a subject from a different email several months ago. The date is from a similar time, but does not exactly correspond to the date of a legitimate message with that subject. In order to investigate whether it's a Claws problem or a Dovecot problem, I looked at the same email in Thunderbird. Thunderbird did NOT show the artifact in the message list, so for the time being I'm assuming it's a Claws problem, or some sort of intermittent conflict between Claws and Dovecot. If I remember correctly, and I might not, as it was several months since I last saw this symptom, it was "cured" by right clicking the local IMAP account in my folder list and choosing "rebuild folder tree". However, according to that recollection, doing that completely deleted the legitimate message, which could be a bad thing if this ever happens to a valuable message. After I send this email, I might try rebuilding the folder again. My memory is vague, but I have a vague impression that when this symptom happens once, it starts happening more and more until I rebuild the folder tree. Probably none of you have experienced this problem, and I'll bet at least a few of you think I'm hallucinating, but if anyone else has seen something like this, please say so. I'm using Debian wheezy (testing), and using Thunderbird (Icedove) for retrieving gmail via IMAP. I have the same thing happen pretty often, and if I click on another message then go back to the one that had the 'artifact' from the wrong message, it then usually shows the correct message text. I had it happen last night, and I actually had to go back and forth to the message twice to see what it actually said. I suspect it's an IMAP issue, but I'm not an expert. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... It's not that the import implementation works badly, or that the export implementation is limited. An mbox file is just a sequence of messages. You can think of it as a single folder. Mbox is not a container format that can contain arbitrarily nested folder/subfolder structures. Are you sure? Please create some empty folders in Kmail export them as an mbox and attach the mbox file to a mail to me. It maybe some funky kmail mail file format but I'm pretty sure it's not an mbox file. Open any mbox file in a text editor and see for yourself. If you export an individual email and open that in a text editor you will see that the folders are usually simply tied to the mbox filename within client config files. Claws uses maildir like the renowned reliable and secure qmail server which is one file per email and is far more reliable and useful than mbox which is basically one file after another in a single file. A corrupt email can render the whole single batch (what you see as a folder) unreadable to a mail client but it will still be fixable and viewable via a text editor. -- ________________________________________________________ Why not do something good every day and install BOINC. ________________________________________________________ From nicolas.claws at iselin.ch Fri Jun 29 19:32:26 2012 From: nicolas.claws at iselin.ch (Nicolas Iselin) Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2012 19:32:26 +0200 Subject: [Users] [Bulk] Re: Migrating emails and emails folders from "Mozilla Thunderbird" to "Claws Mail" In-Reply-To: <580960.5231.bm@smtp139.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> References: <20120627100406.00006726@unknown> <201206290726.10291.renaud@olgiati-in-paraguay.org> <20120629144107.0f4b789a@wodan> <201206290938.07450.renaud@olgiati-in-paraguay.org> <580960.5231.bm@smtp139.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <20120629193226.41cd8965@omega> Am Fri, 29 Jun 2012 17:58:04 +0100 schrieb Kevin Chadwick : > > With due respect, Your Worship, I have in KMail mbox folders that > > hold both mails and sub-folders. > > > > Cheers, > > > > Ron. > > Are you sure? As far as I remember, Kmail can use mbox format for a certain folder but maintains IN PARALLEL a "hidden" directory structure that allows to nest mbox files within each others. Nasty in the filesystem, but transparent to the end user. It will possibly not help if Ron creates now an mbox file, it is likely that Kmail does it different right now compared to what happened when it created the Mbox file a few releases ago... If anyone is interested, I can share what I did for KMail to Claws Migration. If this bug is invalid, I'd also be interested to know how to use autotools with AC_CONFIG_HEADERS / AM_CONFIG_HEADER from a plugin. The mentioned rule of "not redefining macros" is everything but simple (impossible?) to follow, as the names are not chosen by the developer, but by autotools machinery, and are thus doomed to collide. In fact, as far as I can see, all external plugins that use this machinery (notification, gdata, attachwarner, pdf_viewer, geolocation, perl, fancy, python) have this problem. They just by coincidence redefine given #defines with empty strings, about which gcc currently doesn't complain about (even though it's likely invalid, or at the very least unclean). Furthermore, the header might be incorrect, because Claws Mail might have been compiled by the distributor, and a plugin might be compiled by a user, so Claws Mail's installed config.h might not fit the actual machine. The way I understand autotools is that it's supposed to be included in _all_ source files, before any other header, but it's not supposed to be included from any public header, and it's also not supposed to be installed. A more elaborate reasoning, mostly repeating what I wrote above, can be found in [1]. Now, I usually get autotools wrong, so if that's all wrong and the bug is indeed invalid, please tell me (and Sal, and Mones, and Michal) how to fix our code. If I had to do migration again, I'd do it the same way as before: I'd copy from the source client to an IMAP account, and then from the IMAP to Claws. Or, in my case, I didn't do the last step -- I just kept all my email on my local IMAP server, and that IMAP server's Maildir structure is what I back up. It converted thousands of emails > without a hiccup. > > Dan Arico In Kmail I had a mixture of probably 50 Mboxes and 50 Maildirs. Ugh! In retrospect I probably could have done what you did, had I known which email client I would end up using. My first choice was actually MH (http://rand-mh.sourceforge.net/book/index.html#toc), which is why I wanted mh folders instead of maildir or mbox, and that's what originally led me to Sylpheed and Claws. Try as I might, I could find no scripts, that actually worked, to convert maildir and mbox to mh. Meanwhile, I couldn't upgrade my aging Ubuntu until I escaped from Kmail, because Ubuntu 11.10 used (ugh) Kmail2. At a meeting after the meeting for GoLUG (http://www.golug.org), several friends took me aside and gave me an intervention. They explained that my search for scripts that provably worked was the highway to heartache, and that the whole thing could be accomplished by using IMAP as a middleman. They further explained that by actually keeping the emails on a local IMAP, I could avoid this heartache every time I changed email clients, because, in the words of the Oriental Philosopher, "This too will change." So I did as they said, and it worked out beautifully, except for the fact that, as far as I know, you can't use MH scripts on IMAP stored email. But big deal, I'd long before given up the hope of using MH scripts as my email client. Kmail has caused more people more grief than almost any other free software I can think of. It's soooooo good to have Kmail in my rear view mirror. SteveT Steve Litt * http://www.troubleshooters.com/ * http://twitter.com/stevelitt Troubleshooting Training * Human Performance
