  Beyond those specifications, there is the line lenght limit imposed by SMTP
over the final base64 encoded line.

  Unless image is very simple, often it's required to use a colour reduction
algorithm (like posterization) to keep encoded size below 990 characters, which
IIRC in practice means PNG image size around 700 bytes or so.
