Well, I just made the test, and in fact, it is updated as soon as you
release the Shift key.
Agreed, this is not ideal, but at least, it looks correct once you have
finished the action.

That last part is really the most annoying in Claws... I agree, if I select
multiples messages, the message pane should reflect the last one I clicked
(selected)... That would allow extending a selection, while checking
quickly (message pane update) if the last selected message is to be kept or
not in the selection.

Yes, definitely ! Claws is wonderful, despite what I wrote above ;)

Just made a quick test, you can't assign Return to View > Open in new Window
but you can assign Shift+Return.
Not perfect, but still quite some progress ;)
