ah i see, thanks for clarifying. then this got me again with my recent
distribution upgrade, because i had the automatic behavior in the past. so much
for "least surprising"... i fell for it twice :/

well now the "least surprise" makes at least a bit of sense. he meant that you
dont wanted to change the previous behavior. while i agree on the concept in
general, i disagree that it was applied here correctly. no one will miss a
non-functional scrollbar or be surprised that it vanishes. everyone that needed
it in the past would still have one if the default would be automatic.
