O, JFYI, two typos happened on step 3.
- configure.ac: needs proper description for Gtk+ 3.0 and strings may be
surrounded by "
- did a bad sed on gtk3 preprocessor checks: should obviously be: '#if
!GTK_CHECK_VERSION(...)' versus '#ifdef ...' and same for without the
exclamation mark
