The claws.i18n.status.pl script is just for creating the stats page
for the site: http://www.claws-mail.org/i18n.php
You probably meant the po/ directory kept in git:

That's why we keep abandoned *.po files in git.

Things are difficult all round, to be fair, and everyone makes an
effort.

We already took the decision on that, as you probably realised, and
decided that that is not what we want.

Most users do use the English error messages when reporting bugs,
however, when they don't we can always consult the po files if we
need to.
