That shouldn't happen - before base64 encoding, a password can not
contain null character (you can't type that in), and after encoding,
all characters are printable, therefore no \0 either.

I have tested both LOGIN and PLAIN auth methods and they worked for me,
so if I can't reproduce the issue, it will be hard to provide a fix...
