But having said that, it does seem that build instructions for at least
one build environment (and perhaps more!) might be useful as a starting
point for others. Maybe the best place is the FAQ, since it is a
mediawiki wiki. I've no idea how to gain edit ability.

Or maybe I've missed something somewhere ...
