Interesting. Something must be a missed when I upgraded. I went to
"Summaries" and the "Open message when selected" was set to "Never".
But then I set it to something else, hit "Apply" and then put it back
to "Never" and hit "Apply" and now it works as it did before.

Thanks for pointing it out. I forgot about that option.

I switch between threaded and non threaded (Ctrl-T for me). But my
folders have between 4 to 30 thousand emails each. If I'm not Cc'd
directly, I wont see it. My Inbox (currently at 4115 emails, and 903
unread), is the only folder that I will get to all emails
(eventually ;-)
