[Users] which message displays when entering a folder? -- SOLVED!

That still did not fix the problem for all folders **until** I noticed
something very basic that I had not previously noticed. 

Cue -- "duh" moment.  ;o)

I did not realize that I had some folders set to "view>sort>ascending"
while others were set to "view>sort>descending."

Sheesh.

Once I set them all consistently as "view>sort>descending" then when I
opened a folder I was presented with the newest (top-most) message.

I knew it had to be something so simple that I was overlooking.
