The most used e-mail providers in order of number of users:

1) yahoo
2) hotmail
3) gmail
4) aol

Once upon a time AOL ruled but that was years ago.

For the record, gmail plays fast and loose with its SMTP and POP3/IMAP
implementations. It is not totally RFC compliant.
