mutt can handle MH format fine (at least vers 1.5.21 can):

bash$ head -n1 ~/.muttrc
set mbox_type=MH

My setup allows me to do exactly what you want (fetchmail via
pop then procmail to sort, which I can view with either mutt or claws).
