No, you are right.

Not that much. It doesn't replace Claws Mail's builtin functionality,
but extends it. Claws Mail does its work before the script even sees
the message, so those prefixes that Claws Mail knows of anyways are
already taken care of.

However, what would not work would be to strip a long messed-up prefix
chain using different markers.

I.e., it would currently strip

  Subject: R: Re: Aw: R: Odp: Re: Old subject

correctly, but

  Subject: R: Re: Aw: Ref: Re: Odp: Old subject

only until the "Ref: ".

But hey, it's just an example, and the comments explain how to extend
it.
